Electric Firefly and WPtouch – it was love at first sight.

In a recently conducted poll* in which respondents were surveyed regarding sources of stress in their day-to-day lives, a staggering 97% of responses included the inability to easily read the literary stylings of ‘On the Fly’ when using a mobile browser. For what it’s worth, the other responses making up the top three were:
- A belief that the music industry was in fact going broke due to to illegal downloading
- Rumours that Pauly Shore was involved in negotiations to make ‘Biodome 2′.
And so it was on a grey December morning that the aforementioned survey results found their way to the Electric Firefly office, and when I say ‘office’ I am in fact referring to the boot of Simon’s car. As the gravity of the situation dawned upon us, Team Electric Firefly began to plot a course of action. That said, we’re the first to admit that at the end of the day we’re just two ridiculously good looking guys (and Rowan) and that whilst the thought of Pauly Shore again whining his ‘Weazel ‘catchphrase was not to be taken lightly, our priorities ultimately lay with you, dear reader.
And so following months of intensive work and countless all nighters, it gives me great pleasure to formally announce the launch of our brand new mobile browser optimised blog theme, specifically designed for the Jesus Phone iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android touch screen devices. Stand and rejoice dedicated readers, for no longer will you be struck down with the inevitable agonising finger cramps that resulting from intensive sessions of zooming and scrolling. Say farewell to coma inducing loading times that were reminiscent of the ‘good old days’ of dial up internetz. Oh yes, salvation is here.
It’s my opinion that our readers possess a level of intelligence above and beyond that of the average punter. It’s this belief that allows me to rest safely in the knowledge that there is no way that anyone could think that Simon, Rowan or myself possessed the technical expertise to create something this brilliant. However, on the insistence of the Electric Firefly legal department, it should be stated for the record that the creative geniuses responsible for the WPtouch theme are in fact those clever chaps at Brave New Code.
Ludicrously quick and simple to install on WordPress blogs, Wptouch is far more than just a plugin – it’s an entire theme package for your WordPress website. Modeled after Apple’s app store design specs, WPtouch makes your WordPress website load lightning fast on touch mobile devices, show your content beautifully, all while not interfering with your regular theme.
However don’t think that we’re neglecting the 3% of respondents who were satisfied using the original theme on their phones – there’s an option in the footer with WPtouch allowing a quick and easy switch between the WPtouch view and the site’s regular appearance, with the choice saving a cookie for future visits.
But wait… there’s more!
