Stuff We Like – The Marble Hanging Pendant Light

'The Marble Hanging Pendant Light

Welcome to the second installment of ‘Stuff We Like’ – a series of posts in which we the kids from Electric Firefly share tidbits of information that we happen to stumble upon whether it be via RSS feeds, Facebook, Twitter, emails or hastily scrawled notes on the back of cocktail napkins.

Coming to us by way of Furniture Fashion Online Home Magazine is the Marble Hanging Pendant Light from Innermost Ltd. Since 1999 the design team of Steve Jones and Russell Cameron of Innermost Ltd have been at the top of the lighting and house wares game. Available in three sizes, The Marble Hanging Pendant Light is no exception and features gathered synthetic felt supported over a hidden acrylic dome to create a look that offers much more than light.

Art Deco – Installment One

yoink.com.au

You just never know from where (or when) the inspiration for blog posts will strike. Last week my Second-in-Command (a.k.a. Josh) and I became embroiled in a heated debate concerning the Art Deco movement and the degree to which it has influenced countless facets of everyday life. Fortunately thanks to the intervention of our better halves (Maddie and Desiree) we narrowly avoided coming to blows, managing to eventually reach a compromise.

Once the proverbial dust had settled, I got thinking, and so in an attempt to give you, our reader, some content besides our usual witty remarks, shameless self promotion and rambling ramblings, here’s some food for thought on a genre that underpins much of what we know as modernity.  If you’ve ever wondered what happened between the days of horses & carts and motorcars, if you’re not sure how WWI & II were in any way related to the subdivision of Africa, and if you’re wondering what any of this has to do with Art Deco, please read on…

Stuff We Like – Yoink – A Killer New Startup

yoink.com.auIntroducing ‘Stuff We Like’ – a series of posts in which we the kids from Electric Firefly share titbits of information that we happen to stumble upon whether it be via RSS feeds, Facebook, Twitter, emails or hastily scrawled notes on the back of cocktail napkins.

Previously we have posted about how you can responsibly get rid of old, outdated or broken electronics but what about all the other stuff that still works perfectly (or reasonably) well? Introducing Yoink, a new Australian startup that sneakily launched just prior to Christmas. Yoink provides users with a way to giveaway those no longer needed items that are gathering dust and taking up valuable space, while being able to receive items you need yourself and that others are willing to part with. You’ll also be doing your bit for the environment by recycling and reusing items that would in most cases be destined to end up in landfill. (more…)

The Rocks – Markets by Moonlight is on again for 2010

Nimbus_Sol_OrbitalLet’s face it, there’s really nothing worse than shopping with a hangover. On the off chance  you manage to survive the day complete with soul destroying headaches and never ending undulating waves of nausea, its almost guaranteed that you’ll arrive home only to inspect your new purchases and realise they’re complete rubbish.

Now imagine a world in which you could combine your shopping and drinking agendas leaving you free to spend your Saturday in a semi comatose type state mustering the motivation to get up and do it all again. Well your prayers have been answered – ladies and gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to introduce The Rocks – Markets by Moonlight for 2010.

Electric Firefly and WPtouch – it was love at first sight.

'On the Fly' - now in (optimised for mobiles) blog form!'
In a recently conducted poll* in which respondents were surveyed regarding sources of stress in their day-to-day lives, a staggering 97% of responses included the inability to easily read the literary stylings of ‘On the Fly’ when using a mobile browser. For what it’s worth, the other responses making up the top three were:

  1. A belief that the music industry was in fact going broke due to to illegal downloading
  2. Rumours that Pauly Shore was involved in negotiations to make ‘Biodome 2′.

And so it was on a grey December morning that the aforementioned survey results found their way to the Electric Firefly office, and when I say ‘office’ I am in fact referring to the boot of Simon’s car. As the gravity of the situation dawned upon us, Team Electric Firefly began to plot a course of action. That said, we’re the first to admit that at the end of the day we’re just two ridiculously good looking guys (and Rowan) and that whilst the thought of Pauly Shore again whining his ‘Weazel ‘catchphrase was not to be taken lightly, our priorities ultimately lay with you, dear reader. Assembling the Comet: Extreme Lampmanship – A User Guide

The Mighty Comet from Electric FireflyIt’s 35 degrees in the shade and only four weeks ’til Christmas; a Sunday morning down at The Rocks Markets. Your hero, a few short weeks into his apprenticeship, is flying solo for the first time. Nervous? Shaking like a leaf…

He sets up his station and briefly considers ducking down to La Renaissance for one of those yummy ham & cheese croissants and a macchiato, all is quiet. He has no idea what’s in store. On Tuesday he recounted the tale:

“It all happened so suddenly, she walked straight up to me and said – what’s the biggest lamp you’ve got? – I told her how we combine three large Nimbuses (Nimbii?) into one. I was tempted to use the word ‘coalesce’ to describe such a feat, as I so rarely get to use it in a sentence, but it was early in the day and I didn’t want to come off as a tosser.

Support Movember and you could win some Electric Firefly love!

Electric Firefly does MovemberWow, Movember is practically halfway over and i’m pleased to report that all three members of the Electric Firefly Mo Bro’s are sporting their brand new moustaches.

Admittedly, Simon does somewhat bear resemblance to that angry fifteen year old at high school, you know, the one who had to be sat down by the PE teacher for a discussion about personal hygeine and how to use deodorant. Anyway, I digress.
